Acquisition of Published Literature

An important role of the state-of-the-art research library here at Merck Frosst Canada Ltd. is to provide its researchers with access to the published literature, either in printed or electronic format.

Researchers can access the worldwide Merck library collection with a state-of-the-art interconnected library management system. Through this system they can retrieve articles and documents without leaving their desks or labs. In addition, the library's information specialists can use other document delivery systems to supply necessary documents that are not held in the collection, with minimal delay. The library staff continues to pro-actively develop the collection in order to support current research projects and anticipate future needs.

Electronic sources are increasingly important and Merck Frosst has licensing agreements with major publishers to access journals on line. This not only gives researchers rapid access to new documents, but as electronic publication often precedes printed publication, it provides an effective early warning system for new data emerging in the literature.
