MERCK FROSST AND ITS EMPLOYEES COMBINE THEIR EFFORTS TO HELP THE CHINA AND MYANMAR DISASTER VICTIMS

A $40,308.00 cheque is presented to the Red Cross

MONTREAL (Quebec) - June 27, 2008- Following the devastating cyclone that hit Myanmar and the earthquake that shook China, last month the Merck Frosst Employees Charity Trust Fund launched a fundraising campaign to help disaster victims. For each dollar collected from the employees, Merck Frosst made a $2 donation. Last Friday, Merck Frosst and it's employees proudly presented a $40,308.00 cheque to the Red Cross.

"Employee participation in the fundraising campaign was remarkable," pointed out Violette Berberian, President of the Merck Frosst Employees Charity Trust Fund. "The Company's contribution of $2 for each dollar raised from the employees allowed us to give a significant amount to help the China and Myanmar disaster victims."

Employees originating from China were very involved in the fundraising campaign, encouraging solidarity among the Company's employees who then wanted to support their colleagues with a donation.

"As a native of the Sichuan Province, which was affected by the earthquake, I am very moved by the solidarity shown by my colleagues and Merck Frosst's support," said Lijing Xu, a biologist with Merck Frosst.

Last May, the Red Cross invited all Canadians who wanted to support the emergency efforts deployed after the earthquake in China and the cyclone in Myanmar to double the impact of their contributions by making a donation. Thanks to the Government of Canada's generous matching program, the Government pays one dollar to the Relief Fund for each dollar paid by Canadians.
