Our mission entails something more – not only are we committed to the health, safety and well being of the people who take our medicines, but also to our employees, neighbors and others in the communities in which we have a presence. We cannot succeed as a business unless we live up to this promise. |
The philanthropic outreach of Merck Frosst is guided by three strategic priorities: advance scientific knowledge and education, improve health care for Canadians and support communities. Advancing scientific knowledge and education  As one of Canada 's leading research-based pharmaceutical companies, Merck Frosst. At the university level, Merck Frosst offers student scholarships and other initiatives that reward excellence. The company also offers a four-month co-op program for more than 100 of Canada 's finest undergraduate science students. This program gives students the opportunity to work with leading scientists and to publish their research. Many Merck Frosst scientists have cross-appointments at major Canadian universities coast-to-coast.Improving healthcare Our overall goal is to improve the health and well-being of people everywhere through the discovery and development of innovative products that contribute to improving the quality of life of people. Merck Frosst believes that we have to go beyond this to improve the health of Canadians by supporting education programs aimed at disseminating and sharing medical and/or pharmacoeconomic information in the medical field. One of the most recent involvements of Merck Frosst is its contribution to the KRESCENT Program – Kidney Research Scientist Core Education and National Training program. To provide information to patients about health and treatment options, Merck Frosst supports initiatives through collaborations with patient advocacy groups. We also focus on turning cutting edge science into breakthrough medicines that address significant unmet needs by supporting university-based and independent centres engaged in research in the field of medicine. Support to communities We believe that an essential component of our corporate responsibility is to provide support to charitable or philanthropic organizations that benefit our society, from the local community, where Merck Frosst has a major presence, to the national level. As part of our Employee Giving Campaign, the company matches employee donations to three community organizations: West Island Community Shares, United Way/Centraide across Canada and the Merck Frosst Employees Charity Trust Fund.
